WHAT HAPPENED?

On September 1, 2022, OakBend Medical Center was alerted to a ransomware incident affecting its system. While much information is still unknown about the breach, a ransomware group released information indicating that the OakBend Medical Center data breach involved the personal identifiable information of patients and employees as well as protected health information of patients. OakBend Medical Center posted a notice of the data breach on its website, which states that it will post updates often. The ransomware group responsible for the attack claims that the type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Medical information (e.g., diagnosis or treatment information)
