Cetera Financial Group Data Breach Investigation

Founded in 2010, Cetera Financial Group is headquartered in El Segundo, California with other main offices in California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota. Cetera Financial Group has over 8,000 financial advisors and 1,700 home office employees.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On December 23, 2021, one of Cetera Financial Group’s vendors, R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company, identified that it experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information of individuals in its system may have been accessed. R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company investigated the data breach and determined that its systems had been breached between November 29, 2021, and December 23, 2021. On or around May 18, 2022, Cetera Financial Group determined that sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to its clients may have been accessed. In early June 2022, Cetera Financial Group began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
