WHAT HAPPENED?

On February 15, 2022, Martin Tax was notified by its tax software provider that some tax returns pertaining to its clients were fraudulently filed. Martin Tax investigated the matter and confirmed that it experienced a data breach that exposed the sensitive information of some of its clients’ tax returns. The type of information exposed includes details present on client tax returns such as:

  • First and last name
  • Contact information
  • Social Security number
  • Income and other tax return information
  • Bank account information
