Lavelle Industries Data Breach Investigation

Lavelle is a manufacturing company based in Wisconsin. Founded in 1912, Lavelle manufactures rubber and plastic products and assemblies that go into items such as plumbing products, water softeners, food manufacturing equipment, electronics, health care products, toilets and tank trim, boilers, HVAC equipment, transportation equipment and pump systems.3 As an OEM rubber component manufacturer, Lavelle capabilities include custom rubber molding, custom plastic molding, material development including color matching, rubber-to-metal bonding, lathe-cutting, die-cutting, post-mold assembly, specialty packaging and kitting, product design and analysis, and collaborative problem-solving through engineering support.4 Headquartered in Burlington, Wisconsin, Lavelle employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Lavelle announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on March 17, 2024, Lavelle detected suspicious activity within its computer systems. As a result, Lavelle launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Lavelle learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor between March 10 and March 17, 2024. As a result, Lavelle began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial account information

 

As a result of the data breach, Lavelle posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on August 22, 2024, Lavelle mailed data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice on its website, Lavelle will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
