Our Community Credit Union Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Our Community Credit Union (“OURCU”) regarding its recent data breach. The OURCU data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

OURCU, a local credit union headquartered in Washington, traces its roots back to 1941 when it was established as an alternative banking option for employees of the Simpson Logging Company. Expanding its reach in 2010, OURCU opened its doors to all residents of the state of Washington, regardless of their affiliation. Today, OURCU serves a diverse clientele, welcoming anyone living, working, or studying in Washington.2 Offering an array of financial solutions tailored for both individuals and small businesses, OURCU provides services such as checking and savings accounts, VISA credit and debit cards, consumer and mortgage loans, digital banking, and comprehensive financial education. With assets totaling approximately $585 million dollars and boasting a membership of over 34,000 individuals, OURCU operates eight branches across Mason, Grays Harbor, Thurston, and King Counties.2 Headquartered in Shelton, Washington, OURCU employs a team of over 50 professionals who are committed to serving the community.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In April 2024, OURCU discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed or acquired. Through its investigation, OURCU determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to this sensitive information through an employee’s email account on or about April 3, 2024. As a result, OURCU began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Credit union account number
