Christie’s Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Christie’s regarding its cybersecurity incident.

ABOUT CHRISTIE’S:

Christie’s is an art and luxury business, known best for its art auctions. Founded in 1766, Christie’s now offers its clients art financing, art appraisal, and international real estate, and art education.1 Additionally, Christie’s was the first auction house to have a department that partners specifically with museums and non-profits on maintaining dynamic collections.1 With a physical presence in 46 counties, Christie’s main sales locations are New York, London, Hong Kong, Paris, and Geneva.1

WHAT HAPPENED?

On May 9th, 2024, Christie’s shared that it experienced a “technology security issue,” which caused their website to be down for days and affect that weekend’s art auction in New York.2 On May 27th, 2024, the hacker group RansomHub took credit for the Christie’s cyberattack.3 Christie’s has been investigating the incident, confirming that an unauthorized third party accessed parts of its network and that “the group behind the incident took some limited amount of personal data relating to some of [its] clients.”3 As of May 28th, 2024, Christie’s has not confirmed the kinds of data that were taken or the number of people affected.
