OE Federal Credit Union Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLCa leading data breach law firm, is investigating OE Federal Credit Union (“OEFCU”) regarding its recent data breach. The OEFCU data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT OE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION:

OEFCU is a labor focused credit union based in California. Founded in 1964, OEFCU is one of the largest labor-based credit unions in the country, serving more than 135 union groups, 32 different trades, and over 100,000 members.3 Today, OEFCU offers an array of financial products and services, including checking and savings accounts, personal, auto, and home loans, investment services, insurance products, and online banking. Headquartered in Livermore, California, OEFCU has over 20 branch locations across five states and employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or about October 28, 2023, OEFCU discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed or acquired. Through its investigation, OEFCU determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between approximately August 19, 2023, and October 29, 2023. As a result, OEFCU began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Taxpayer ID number
  • Driver’s license or government ID number
  • Passport number
  • Financial information (e.g., account information, routing number, credit and/or debit card number, expiration date)
  • Username and password
  • Medical information (e.g., medical procedure information, clinical or treatment information, medical provider name, medical record number, prescription information) 
  • Health insurance information
