Bankers Life Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

On November 29, 2023, Bankers Life discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Bankers Life determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a complex “SIM swapping” attack. On January 26, 2024, Bankers Life began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Policy numbers
